The Clerk of the Scales objected to the winner, Capitaine (FR), ridden by Mr Sam Waley-Cohen and trained by Ms Georgina Nicholls, on the grounds of the rider weighing in at 11st 8lbs, having weighed out at 11st 10lbs.
Capitaine (FR) was disqualified and the placings were revised as follows: First, Creative Inerta (IRE); Second, Midnight Cowboy (GB); Third, Bandsman (GB); Fourth, Ecu De La Noverie (FR).
The rider, the rider’s valet, the trainer and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
As the Stewards were unable to establish an explanation for the weight difference, Mr Waley-Cohen was suspended for 3 days, on dates to be notified to him by the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, and this being a Hunter Chase the owners of Capitaine (FR) were fined £750.
