Scorchio strikes in Dundalk nursery
Myself and my father leased her to a syndicate. She is obviously well-related and I have her little full-brother as well. I was kind of hoping she would do that off the back of her first run in Listowel, but I would say it was probably all just a little too quick, too fast for her. She needed a bit of time at the back of it all to mature mentally and physically. That was the first thing Wesley said - they went a million miles per hour - and he took back and he just let them go. To be fair, he is obviously a very talented rider but he has got a brain as well. We saw the fruits of his work there this evening. I would suspect so (be busy in Dundalk), she seemed to handle the surface well and the lads are knocking a bit of fun out of her now that she has won. Hopefully we will have a bit of craic with her this side of Christmas. Hopefully she can go on from this.
Sead springs 25/1 shock in Mercury
I said to Fran (Berry) and Kevin (O'Ryan, Racing TV), who are always joking with me, 'she'll win!' and they looked at me. We got beat in the nursery in the race before and the two-year-old (Moral Turpitude) was working with her, but we missed the break and you cannot miss the break in Dundalk. The mares sometimes can really come on as they get older. The guys wanted to cover her from four to five and I said please don't do that because this mare could be a Group animal next year. I will talk to them, but definitely (stay in training). She was very unlucky in Tipperary because she was drawn on the wrong side. If she was this side, she would have won. I said to my boy (Oisin McSweeney), because I've trained abroad for so long, 'if you can do 12 seconds for the first furlong, they won't beat you'. I knew the way she jumped out, we had it. She would be tough.
Empire justifies good support to open account
He was brave, he is still very green. First time under the lights and all that can hit them. He was down the inside and the horse that he was taking the lead off pushed him in a little bit, was leaning in a little bit. He fought back right to the line and he'll really enjoy himself now when he gets a little bit of a break, he'll really mature over the winter. He's a real honest, quiet, grand horse. He'll get that trip and he'll get more. He wants nice ground. You'll see him back next April some time. Great to get a winner for the owners (Ballygallon Stud).
Lyons and Keane double up with hotpot Heart
Stall 14 and it is a long straight out the back, Colin had to ride the draw a little bit, but to be fair to the horse on only his second run, he helped him. He was there to be shot at turning into the straight, green and all as we thought he would be. His class came to the fore and he stuck it out well. He was bought to be that (a black-type horse next year) - he's a half to Elysium, Noel Meade's Group 3 winner. He's 510kg and will only do well over the winter. It is great to get two runs into him and to be able to put him away. We didn't really look at the form to the extent that we always liked him.
