Formscan By Eamonn Murphy - Aidan O’Brien recently described this edition of the Irish Derby as “very exciting and very interesting." He added: "Horses can still come from out of the clouds. There are an awful lot of horses in there that we’re not going to know about until they run.” Obviously in the unique year that we’re in, a pecking order hasn’t been established yet, and with Russian Emperor and Mogul (Epsom bound) not in the mix it appears that SANTIAGO could be where the main Ballydoyle hopes rest. Seamie Heffernan rides for the first-time and his mount looks just the progressive type required. Cheek-pieces could help King Edward VII Stakes runner-up, Arthur’s Kingdom, and it’s no surprise to see Wayne Lordan on that fellow. Crossfirehurricane and Fiscal Rules try a mile and a half for the first time. They have the potential to get involved if they get the trip. That pair aren’t the only ones tackling twelve furlongs for the initial occasion, so the prospect of something taking a big step forward can’t be ruled out.
