FormscanBy Donal Murphy - None of the six can be safely ruled out in this good quality contest. Getting a mares weight allowance and with Aidan Kelly claiming 5lb, WHATCOULDHAVEBEEN appeals. A four-time winner, she was last seen finishing an excellent fifth to Teahupoo in the Champion Stayers Hurdle at Punchestown, and a reproduction of that performance would be good enough to take this three-mile heat. A fine fifth in the County Hurdle, Franciscan Rock was a place behind the selection at Punchestown and while he might struggle to reverse the form, he should still give a good account of himself. Successful at Ballinrobe in May, Beacon Edge will be well-fancied to follow-up, while Kilbeggan winner Happy Jacky is also likely to have plenty of supporters. Macgiloney and Dreal Deal complete the line-up and with 17 wins between them, they both warrant respect.

Quotes on Macgiloney (IRE)
He’s a ten-year-old now and that’s 11 races that he’s won, he’s a brilliant servant. He’s been a bit in and out this year but would have won here two runs ago when he stumbled at the back of the last so he deserved that. Looking at the race he was meeting them all wrong at the weights but they are all old horses and have two ways of running at this stage so we said we’d take our chance. Hopefully the handicapper won’t react too harshly. They are hard horses to place. We pulled him out of Galway because of the ground and then we ran on similar ground here. It’s loose here so we got away with it. Extreme trips suit him and if we could get three and a half miles that would be great. Daniel gave him a lovely ride and had him in all the right places. After Macgiloney (IRE) finished 1st at Kilbeggan on Sat, 12th Aug 2023 3m 1f Hurdle Good to Yielding

Quotes on Franciscan Rock (IRE)
That wasn't before his time, but they still have to go and do it. In all his races, all he looked like doing was staying and had been beaten by better horses on the day. He seemed to handle today's ground well, but the ground might get a bit tight for him from now on. I'm more looking forward to next season with him for jumping fences. After Franciscan Rock (IRE) finished 1st at Thurles on Thu, 23rd Feb 2023 2m 7f Maiden Hurdle Good

Quotes on Whatcouldhavebeen (IRE)
It's great as we haven't had a great run over the winter, a lot of our horses were under a cloud and just weren't performing. We thought she worked nicely the other morning, herself and Boher Road together. He was giving us a nice run until he decided to exit! That gave us a little bit of confidence that she was back somewhere near her best again. She was second in a Grade 1 at this meeting last year. Since she got her summer break she hasn't been firing and she's just coming back to herself now. We'll probably stick to handicap company for Punchestown. It's great to get her back in front again and back running the way she can run. . Aidan kicked on a long way out. We were a bit worried when Oliver McKiernan's horse (Kilbree Warrior) came out as that is normally the pacesetter. . She was starting to hit a bit of a flat spot in her races so we put the cheekpieces on and she travelled a bit better than she has been. They were just going too steady so it backfired a little bit on us as we had to push the pace on ourselves rather than being brought along. She is game and genuine and stayed at it well. It was a brilliant ride by Aidan, very similar to what he did in the Grade 1 last year. We didn't have Ashroe Diamond catching us down the straight today. After Whatcouldhavebeen (IRE) finished 1st at Fairyhouse on Mon, 1st Apr 2024 2m 6f Hcap Hurdle Heavy
