I was unlucky the last day when I was beaten a nose on her over six. I think the step up to seven helped her today. I thought we went a nice gallop early and I was just able to slot into a lovely position and I was very happy through the race. She travels lovely through her race and while I probably thought I got there a fraction too soon, I hit the line today. We have all had to pull together on this one, frustrating. The last couple of runs she has been having a holiday, not going in (to stalls) on us. A cheap, fun horse we picked up at the HIT (Horses In Training) Sales. We have her about eight weeks and a solid filly for the all-weather. She ran a cracker the first night in the fillies' handicap. We had to iron a few things out with her. She has talent and hopefully she is a filly to look forward to for the winter months. Stephen (Mooney, assistant) is riding her out every day and we had to use the services of Will Hayes just to help her out on the weekend. We have spent all weekend with her, so we were practically living in the box with her the last couple of days!. It is magic, it is a proud moment in my life and it is great to get going with the licence. We are a little less than three weeks from taking it out and we have plenty that have hit the board. I'm delighted to get it and delighted that she was the first winner. She proved difficult, but we got there in the end. She's a half (sister) to a stakes winner, we were going to pitch her back into the February Sale or something like that - she will always have a bit of residual value. She was bought to do this job and hopefully the owners will have a bit of fun with her. I've worked with plenty of top international trainers and I have my experience now, we just need a little bit of luck and a little bit of support. Home is home and it is very competitive in Ireland. Class is permanent and form is temporary! It's been a while since he won but he ran a great race in the premier handicap at Cork (last month), where he finished fourth,. We ran him in the Curragh the last day where he was drawn right out on the wing and he got very upset in the stalls and he ran very freely. He was in good form and we just felt that Fairyhouse would suit him, around a bend, that he'd be able to relax and drop it, which he did. Adam gave him a good ride, he was very cool on him. The plans for the boys are that they're always over for the end of July and that's where he'll go. I'll see what the handicapper gives him and we'll try and get him into those two big handicaps in Galway. If he's going to get in off his current mark I'll leave him but if not I might have to run him again. we left tactics up to Jack (Kearney), he used his head and gave him a brilliant ride. It was probably one of the first nights that the horse has been dropped in. It was an upgrade in the performance considering we were a couple wide off the rail and had a significantly bad draw around here. If they go good and quick over the seven-furlong trip, you can get into it. It worked out perfect for him. Hopefully, that will give him a bit of confidence now and we will mix it between the claimers and the handicaps. He's a grand fun horse for the lads (Shamrock Thoroughbreds). We've had him nearly 12 months now and it took us a while to get things right with him because he is not a simple ride. We will rock on through the winter and find something suitable in January. I'm after using the young lad (Kearney) a couple of times and I'm quite impressed by him. He will be another kid that we will kind of support into the new year. I thought Sean Davis' horse (Sayifyouwill) would win it, but these claimers can be very funny. We were weighted to beat the favourite (Shoot To Kill) with Skontonovski and Comfort Line. Nikki Swango was weighted to beat the whole lot of them, so I thought she was the best one in, in the race. I wasn't expecting a 1-2-3 now to be honest, but it was great. I had one in Laytown one day and I think it is the only one I can remember. He has been a great horse, a great servant and is rock-solid in his grade.
