FormscanBy Mark Nunan - BALLYADAM took a heavy fall at the first on his chasing debut at Punchestown which has to be a concern but he’s given another chance on the basis of his classy hurdles form. He won a Grade 1 novice event last November before being no match for the leading novice Appreciate It on several occasions. He was only a little over three lengths off that horse at Leopardstown in the spring which was a fine effort and may have been over the top when running poorly at Aintree. The fact that he’s a point-to-point winner is reassuring and hopefully last month’s tumble hasn’t left a mark. Buddy Rich sets a good standard and has bumped into smart novices on his last two starts. Runner-up in all four starts over fences this autumn, his experience will be an asset against his former stablemate. Gordon Elliott’s second runner Wide Receiver won his only point-to-point and was a fair novice hurdler. He’s not one to dismiss now switching to fences while Hannon and Pure Genius are other useful hurdlers who are tackling the larger obstacles for the first time.
