A Law Of Her Own battled back gamely to prevail in a thrilling finish to the mares handicap hurdle at Galway.

The Peter Fahey-trained filly travelled well to lead turning for home in the two-miler but was soon joined by Aurora Princess going to the last.

It was a duel on the run-in with that rival edging ahead briefly but A Law Of Her Own found more for Sam Ewing to get on top close home for a head success at odds of 18/1.

The stewards called an enquiry with the pair coming together in the closing stages but the result stood.

“She's tough and when she won her bumper she was as tough as anything as well. It took her a while to get a hang of the jumping and she never really got nice ground so we put her away after her last run,” said Fahey.

“She's a lovely filly to have and it's great that she's done this. Hopefully she can pick up a bit of black-type somewhere along the way for the lads.

“She's not short of pace and she'll go back on the Flat as well. They'll have plenty of options with her, she won a point-to-point as well so there's no reason why she can't go either way.

“It's great to get another winner as they've been running well without winning for the past two days. This gives me reason to celebrate and have the craic!'

Ewing told RTE: "That's my first winner since I was hurt. I was a bit unlucky, I broke my arm in a fall at Musselburgh but it's great to be back and great to get a winner at the festival.

"I had the horse to get me through the gap in the dip and she stuck her head out very well up the hill.

"I was placed on her in a few nice maidens last season and Peter always thought she wanted a bit of nicer ground. He gave me a few chances when I started off and we'd a bit of luck together so I'm very grateful to him and Ber for helping me."
