The break did him no harm and he’s come back good and strong. He jumped great and I was really pleased with that. We’ll try and find another similar type race for him. I don’t know if he’ll travel (entered in the Champion Chase and Ryanair at Cheltenham) on that and there might be nice prizes on the home front. It’s good to get him back to winning ways. We did a lot of work on his jumping and I’m very pleased it has paid off.

the first half of Luke's plan has gone to plan anyway!. I thought he was very impressive what he did, especially after his mistake at the third last. What he did in between the third last and the last was what impressed me. It's very hard for any horse to be impressive, visually, on that ground and in that weather. I'd imagine that might mean he goes to the Champion Hurdle now. It was debated what chance would he have in the Champion Chase and what chance might he have in the Champion Hurdle. It was decided then that we'd run today, see what happens and that would make up our mind. We keep coming back to saying that he has as much of a chance in the Champion Hurdle as he has in the Champion Chase. That's the reasoning behind where we are going.

it was a good performance and he always promised plenty. It was a pity he missed most of last season but he making up for it now and I'd imagine Willie will find another similar contest for him and hopefully he'll continue stepping up the ladder. You'd hope he will reach Grade 1 standard — he has done it over hurdles and he jumps fences well. For a small field it was a very competitive race today.

that was very impressive for a horse with such little experience. Ornua is obviously a Grade 1 winner and we were getting a lot of weight. He wasn’t going to be easy to place this year with just one run as a novice. I’m not sure what the plan is now but he has a lot of ability and will probably be kept to two miles for the moment. He’s only had two runs over fences and maybe it would be best to take baby steps and get more experience into him. Today was an ideal race with just four runners and they were well spread out. His jumping has always been good.

My two jockeys came in and said they went down over the first three fences as fast as they'd go in any Arkle Chase, or Champion Chase I think Paul said. The flew over the first three and I was happy with the way my two jumped. It sounded like a really good test so it was good for Cilaos Emery to come out and be able to win starting off like that. I'm very pleased. It means he'll get an entry in the Arkle, Duc Des Genievres will too. I wouldn't think he'd go to the Dublin Racing festival as it's next week and it would be too soon. I'd imagine we'll go straight there at this stage of the season. I'll see if I can squeeze one in but the third day of Cheltenham is this day seven weeks so it's going to be very hard, especially after that race as it was a very hard race. They went flat to the boards for most of the race. We'll see how he comes out of it.

I liked him at Punchestown in his bumper where I thought he was exceptional, and he showed that again today. He was against proven stayers and point-to-point horses, took them on from the front and was going away from them. He will go for a novice now and should improve away over the season.

What he was doing in half speeds was very good though. Down the back straight I had to get down and push him five or six times, but he's quite green as we weren't working him hard. Coming around the home bend he was pricking his ears. I kicked then - I did the same in the Land Rover (on Jenkins, the runner-up) and didn't get home. It worked here - unfortunately it didn't work earlier. I think there's a lot of improvement in him. It's nice for Luke McMahon (owner) to get a winner. His Uncle Junior retires this week so hopefully this fellow can give him as much pleasure. He's obviously very smart and showed lots of gears. He has a real staying pedigree so when he showed that it's very encouraging. He did it the hard way as he only had a few horses behind him at the stone wall. He showed greenness but then he showed lots of speed and then showed off his stamina when Jessie's horse came to him. He's a horse for the future. I think he'll need a break now as he was ready today, and he'll come back later on. He could go to Galway for a winners bumper, or we may leave him off and come back jumping.
