What a servant. He has now won every year for us since we bought him. He has been leading the two year olds at home all winter and it is has really sweetened him up. He has been hammering them all, except for one, and has got the appetite back. Donagh reckons he mightn't be finished yet. It was getting harder at the higher level, he probably lost his confidence but as he has come back down the ratings, his confidence has come back and it was his first ever time running in a 0-65. We were hoping that would be enough to get him across the line.
Damian Joseph English, trainer
The Stewards requested a report from Damian Joseph English, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Geological, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his yard had been under a cloud for a very long time and his horses had disappointed. He advised that he had not trained a winner since this animal won at Down Royal twelve months ago. In his opinion his charge had lost his confidence but following a general return to form of his runners and the drop in the ratings of Geological from 78 on the day he won last year to 62 today were contributing factors to the improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report
At the request of the Stewards, S.J. Cummins, rider of Approachcautiously, trained by Seamus G. O'Donnell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was getting tight for room on the first bend when he took a precautionary check.
W.J. Lee, rider of Cactus Tree trained by M.C. Grassick, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got no run in the final one hundred yards.
An extended handicap for four years old and upwards rated 47-65
