An enquiry was held to consider the reason why Knomorediamonds (FR), ridden by Conner McCann, had appeared to take the incorrect course when running off the bend before the back straight towards the Grand National course, ultimately colliding with a barrier and unseating the rider.
Being a 7lb claimer McCann was accompanied by a BHA Jockey Coach.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
He explained that Knomorediamonds (FR) was very green on its first outing and, when running freely, began to hang badly right-handed and wide around the bend so that, despite his best efforts, he was unable to steer his mount left to keep him on the correct course.
His comments were noted.
An enquiry was held to consider the circumstances as to why a member of the public had crossed the track several times at the winning post during the concluding stages of the race and before two of the runners had completed the course.
The Clerk of the Course and the Regional Director North West were interviewed.
Having heard their evidence and having reviewed the video recording of the incident, the matter was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
