An enquiry was held to consider interference entering the first bend when the winner, SPIRIT OF ZEBEDEE (IRE), ridden by Adam McNamara, interfered with DROP KICK MURPHI (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by William Cox, which in turn interfered with AFRICAN GIRL, unplaced, ridden by Tim Clark. McNamara was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had allowed his horse to drift left-handed towards the rail, taking DROP KICK MURPHI (IRE) off its intended line, which caused Clark to have to take a check off heels in behind runners.
COMPTON PRINCE, trained by Milton Bradley, finished fourth at Kempton the previous day. The Veterinary Officer reported that a pre-race examination of the gelding deemed him fit to race.
Paddy Bradley reported that BROUGHTON EXCELS, placed fifth, suffered interference on the first bend, and Tim Clark reported that AFRICAN GIRL, unplaced, suffered interference on the first bend.
Adam McNamara, the rider of SPIRIT OF ZEBEDEE (IRE), drawn 10, had appeared not to keep straight from the stalls. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, the rider was suspended for 1 day.
