Leaving the stalls, Swiss Pride (IRE), placed third, jumped left-handed, giving a bump to Ithra (GB), placed fourth, and causing it to be taken off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Swiss Pride (IRE).
The winner, MCCAULEY’S TAVERN (IRE), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Chelmsford on 11 December 2023, where the gelding finished eighth of eight runners, beaten by 7¾ lengths.
Mark Loughnane’s explanation that the gelding benefitted from the removal of both the eye shield and blinkers, coupled with a more patient ride, was noted.
