Point Lonsdale is Ascot bound after impressive debut
Lyons colt a smooth debut winner
He’s a lovely horse and is after doing that very well. He took it in very well beforehand and during the race he was very professional.
Twomey records first Group success with Sonaiyla
She’s a great filly, she’s tough and she’s hardy. I think she’s in better form than ever this year. She missed the break the last day and did great work in the finish from an unpromising position. I’m delighted she came today and showed what she’s been showing us this spring. I’ll have to talk to the owners but she has won a Group 3 now so we will step up in grade. She’s in the Diamond Jubilee which might not be an outrageous target. She’s Group 1 placed and the Haydock Sprint and the Flying Five are other race to consider. We’ll achieve what we can for the year and I’d say she will be covered next year. She’s won on good to firm and she’s won on heavy. I’d say she has great preference for this track and has never been out of the frame here. It’s my first Group winner after a lot of places.
O'Connell lands nice pot with Shelley Banks
I’d say the tongue tie helped her a lot today — it’s her first time with it. She just wasn’t finishing her races the last few times so we said we’d stick on a tongue tie and see how it went. He dropped her in a bit today which probably helped her as well. I’ve nothing really picked out but she’s got a good pot there so that should keep them all happy for a while. She’s small but she’s tough. She’s honest which is the main thing.
Lyons and Keane double up with Listed winner Reve De Vol
That was a very good performance. Colin said a very true run mile and two would be right up his street. There was a bit of cat and mouse there today. Colin was able to fill him and try to get a gap out. He hit the line hard and it’s a nice race to win. He’s bred to get a mile and a half but Colin said a true run mile and two would suit so if he keeps winning then we’ll keep him at that.
Thornton's Shanroe continues his progression on the level
We brought him over to England (for the Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock) but he didn’t travel well and we knew our fate well before the race as he didn’t eat and didn’t drink. The travelling left its mark and I was in two minds whether to run him or not here. Robbie rode him last Thursday and said he was fine. He must be a very good horse as Robbie said he was behind the bridle today but he battled really well. He said the ground was as quick as he’d want it. He’s in Listowel on Sunday but I wouldn’t think he will go. He won three bumpers in England but he got a fall over hurdles in Catterick and maybe that was just on his mind when he travelled the last day. The money in the Ebor is very tempting and maybe we could fly him over!
Lordan seen to good effect as O'Brien records Sweet double
Maybe just a glass or two after No More Porter lands a touch
He’s just an improving horse. He showed us a little bit the last day and we thought he had a good chance here today. Ivan Holloway bred him and heads up the syndicate with a lot of his pals. There is a seven-furlong race at Leopardstown on the 17th and there is six-furlong race in Naas as well. I think he’ll be versatile enough with trip, and it’s a fair performance for a three-year-old to win on his first run in a handicap.
