Ballydoyle maintains unbeaten record with juvenile runners
he was fairly straight forward and professional, not as green as I thought he would be. He bounced out and travelled, quickened up nicely and will be better with another furlong. The surface was fine on him. He’s a War Front and it felt good on him. It’s firm in places but you can go down five or six inches in other places.
Sundance Star gains deserved first success
She was lugging a bit right with me up the straight but she kept going well and got to the line well. She might progress off that and hopefully there is another day or two in her. When the boys were walking the track (inspection after the first race), the softest part seemed to be on the inside. We were going to be coming up the middle anyway. Romanised ran a good race at Naas. I could have pulled him out at the top of the straight and given him a hard race but I rode him for a little bit of luck and let him progress. He’s run a hell of a race giving 5lb to Le Brivido and only beaten a neck. We were happy with him going into the race and we were even happier coming out of it.
Kasbah wins Claimer for trainer's sponsor
he’s been a bit frustrating but he ran well in Navan the last day and is owned by the Dooley brothers and our yard sponsor Bart O’Sullivan. It’s our first winner for them. I know we had to drop him back to a claimer to win but he’s won plenty of money all winter, and if we don’t lose him he’ll probably go to the likes of Chester as the lads are local to there and it would suit them. He’s a fun horse and if he’s claimed, he’s claimed. That fast six is probably his trip. He’s gone seven by dropping in and we haven’t chanced a mile yet. He’s even run well over five here. He’s a hold up horse and sometimes he doesn’t find a whole pile but tonight he did.
Silk Cravat scores fourth career success
I was a little bit surprised and thought he would find it hard to turn around the form with Gavin’s horse (Nisior Donn). He can be a tricky so and so but Ben gave him a super ride. He came out of the race well on Saturday. He’s tough and he came off the grass really well and the ground was lovely. Hopefully he will come off this as well as the grass. He’s rated a lot lower on the grass so we’ll probably go back to that and see how we get on.
Lady Rosebud wins in three-way photo-finish
it’s been a while coming! I’ve tried to get this chap (jockey Gavin Ryan) for a while as I think he rides very well. It’s the first time I have been able to get him. She’s been threatening to win a race for a while having run some stinkers last year but she likes this time of the year and she loves here. I thought he was very strong on her, and she seemed to battle for him. She will keep going on the grass. I don’t think the ground is that big a difference to her but she likes nice ground.
Pearlman wins for Halford & Whelan
I’d say he’s improving. Ronan gave him a lovely ride, kept it simple and got a lead, and we said we’d have one go at the favourite (Dunkirk Harbour). Our lad stuck his head out and you’d like his attitude. He handles the surface. We’ll step him up now to handicaps and see how he goes.
Teenager Horgan keeps it in the family with first win
