Quizical takes Gowran opener
he deserved that. Ronan feels that he’ll be an even better horse in better company, and said he was still a bit keen. Up to this with the draw he hasn’t really learned how to race as he’s been out wide on his own. He said he won with a bit in hand and his ears pricked.
she only has one eye but it doesn’t seem to do her any harm and she seems to handle any ground. It looks like she will get a bit further and she’s out of a mare by Galileo and that always helps.
I was a little concerned about the ground but he did it well. He had a bit of form over hurdles with an ease but I think he’s a bit better on a quicker surface. In fairness Denis (Linehan) said he picked up well and if anything he got there a bit soon and just idled in front.
Epsom Oaks third wins Hurry Harriet Stakes
she was the classiest filly in the race but her last two runs have been a little disappointing. I always felt I was going to get there and pick Pat (Smullen, on Making Light) up. I was happy enough to come on the wide outside and get a clear run. It was a help today.
Back in business Bolger has Gowran double
she hasn’t always come up to expectations but is happy doing what she is doing (making the running).
Tears in America as Club gets lucky!
there are 20 members in the syndicate and there are five here today. I’d like to give a shout out to Gavin who is in America and is one of the guys who is heavily involved. He was watching the race on Facetime and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a grown man cry as much! . One of the men on track was Facetiming through the whole race to him and he was bawling crying at the end of the phone. He was very emotional about it and takes a big role in the group. I’m delighted for them and they’re really enthusiastic. For not too much expense it’s great and the important thing is to get a horse like this who can run well consistently and that’s what she does and tries her heart out. The ground is important to her and I wouldn’t mind stepping up in trip with her and while she’s in at the weekend, Listowel (in September) would definitely suit.
Derby formlines to the fore as Prey wins finale
I was worried about the ground as he’s only run on fast ground. He was working on it in the spring and he went alright on it so we took a chance and he got through it.
