Miracle comes good in Gowran opener
I thought she ran very well in the Curragh the last day only beaten about two lengths and the horse that finished just in front of her won well at Tipperary. She’s a big frame of a filly and is strengthening up the whole time. She’s very well bred and it’s great to get a win for the Niarchos family. She took a long time to come to hand and is a big, raw filly. In fairness they have done a great job here with the ground. We’ll try and get a bit of black type for her.
Front-running Friday hangs on
It was an enterprising ride by Killian again. I watched it at the furlong pole and he got headed and battled back. We’re delighted with him. We have him back in a bit of form recently and you don’t get too many opportunities so you have to take them when you get them. There is a race in Galway in about a month’s time and we’ll probably have him out again in that. It’s a track he likes and he loves it in front. The owner (Tony Deegan) bred him and he has the mother at home and a few brothers and sisters. Hopefully he’ll have more coming down the line.
Peacock breaks maiden in Listed company at Gowran
It’s a nice way to break your maiden! She has always worked well at home and we couldn’t believe that she could actually get beaten in so many maidens. She was a bit unlucky in Killarney, she didn’t get going soon enough. Shane said today that he would buck her out and be on the pace all the way. Now that she has got her head in front you wouldn’t know what she might do. She’s running in Craig Bernick’s colours today and it’s brilliant that she has broken her maiden and got big black type.
Road has options after maiden win
Step off to the paddocks after springing surprise
She hasn’t shown much at home but we know she likes fast ground and didn’t get it the last day in Naas. She came on a lot from the run and I think she needs to go right-handed — that’s what Emmet (McNamara) said the last day. Master Matt and Lord Dudley, two sprinters, they went a million and she came through off the strong pace. She won over ten furlongs last year. She is going to the breeding shed and her job is done.
Mantis makes winning start for McGuinness
She was a very cheap purchase in Newmarket for four grand. She’s won around here before and had solid enough form before losing her way a bit. She did that well enough and you won’t see her again until Laytown. Mark Devlin and the lads just love Laytown. She’s a fun horse and Adam gave her a great ride.
McGuinness grabs quick double with Clarinbridge
She’s a game little filly. We gave her a break earlier in the year and when she came back she had two solid runs when she was second and I probably went to Killarney a bit quick after it. I gave her another little break and she was game there today. Rory gave her a great ride. I said there is only one way to ride this track on this ground and if you are not up in the top four or five you are in trouble. Des Whyte, a local guy from Skerries, has her in partnership with my wife and it’s the first time he’s been involved. It’s great for him to get his name on the scoresheet. She’s entered up in the Curragh and Dundalk so we’ll see.
Safecracker finds the key in finale
It’s nice to get his head in front. I didn’t think it would take that long for him to do it. He works like a nice horse. He was a little keen in some races but since we put the hood on him he’s relaxing really well. We’ll probably run him in the mile-and-five handicap on Champions Weekend. He’ll probably get an entry in the mile and a quarter race that weekend as well but the way he ran today Ben said he should get a mile-and-five well.
