George Baker had obtained prior permission from the BHA to run Bletchley Storm (GB) with no hind shoes.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approaching and inside the final furlong, when the winner Bletchley Storm (GB), ridden by Aidan Keeley, interfered with Uncle Dick (GB), placed second, ridden by Oliver Carmichael.
Being a 7lb apprentice, Carmichael was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Bletchley Storm (GB), as following an initial carry left-handed from Bletchley Storm (GB) as they approached the final furlong, the remainder of the movement left-handed towards the rail was an independent drift from Uncle Dick (GB), with Bletchley Storm (GB) following suit down the camber, further Bletchley Storm (GB) always appeared to be holding Uncle Dick (GB) to the line with the winning distance a short head.
The Stewards therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Keeley was cautioned for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to drift left-handed without sufficient correction, taking Uncle Dick (GB) marginally off its intended line as they approached the final furlong.
Following the race, Jack Doughty reported that Douglas Dc (IRE), placed fifth, hung left-handed in the home straight.
Mia Nicholls reported that Irezumi (GB), placed fourth, was slowly away.
