The Clerk of the Scales objected to Kaafy (IRE), placed second, ridden by Paul Mulrennan and trained by Grant Tuer, on the grounds of the rider weighing in at 9st 3lbs having weighed out at 9st 6lbs.
The rider, the trainer’s representative and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
Tuer was fined £1000 as the representative had failed to add the weight cloth when saddling the gelding, resulting in the gelding not carrying the correct weight throughout the race.
Kaafy (IRE) was disqualified and the placings were revised as follows: First – Excessable (GB), Second – Montalvan (IRE), Third – Eldelbar (SPA), Fourth – B Fifty Two (IRE).
The performance of Bumbledom (GB), which started favourite but finished unplaced, was considered.
Michael Dods explained that the gelding may have been unsuited by being unable to dominate on this occasion.
His explanation was noted and Bumbledom (GB) was routine tested.
