Permission was given for Stan (FR) to go early to post and for Third Batch (GB) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Intergalacticat (GB), ridden by Darragh Keenan and trained by James Fanshawe, which was slowly away and settled at the rear of the field before staying on well in the home straight under a hands and heels ride to finish sixth of thirteen, beaten 5½ lengths.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Intergalacticat (GB) revealed the colt had lost its left-fore shoe and was slightly lame on that leg.
Keenan stated that his instructions were to settle mid- division, get the colt up in between horses and finish as close as he could.
Keenan explained that after being slowly into stride, he had to accept his position due to the horses drawn on either side jumping into his path, which resulted in him being further back than intended.
Keenan added that he considered the early pace to be slow and the colt travelled strongly throughout, before he was stuck down on the inner following horses which were not taking him forward into the race approaching the home turn.
Entering the home straight he had obtained clear running and placed the colt under pressure, before switching left handed approximately 1½ furlongs out, to ensure he maintained a clear passage and Intergalacticat (GB) had ran on well under a hands and heels drive, to obtain the best possible placing in the circumStances in his opinion.
Keenan’s explanation was noted.
Following the race, Clifford Lee reported that Philos (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed.
