Medicinal springs surprise for the McNamara's
He was a good horse on the flat but he lost his way and it was a case of sweetening him up. We bought him at the Newmarket horses-in-training sale. He ran ok at Clonmel but he has obviously improved. He loves soft ground. The owners (the Notraininifitsrainin Syndicate) are from Limerick City.
Three wins from four starts for Letherbelucky
Moscow storms home on first start in over a year
He is a horse whose had loads of problems. Loads of small ones and I thought he might need the run today. I'd say he might have one more run over hurdles as he will go over fences sooner rather than later.
Eric shows he still has it
If he didn't run in Kilbeggan his Listowel run would have left him with a right chance as he wasn't beaten far by Victrix Gale. He will be kept hurdling now. He needs that trip and a good cut in the ground.
Lady beats Queen to open account over hurdles
When I saw the small field I decided to let her take her chance. She had a lovely run at Gowran last week (sixth behind Apache Gold on the level). She is owned and bred by my brother Michael. She won here as a 2yo. Michael bought her back off Willie McCreery for breeding as he has all the family. She had tendon trouble but we decided to give her a try when the leg was good. She travelled really well today.
Double for Mullins as Connaught eases to victory
He's a 7yo and he has had a lot of problems. He is owned and bred by Kevin O'Brien and he has had a lot of luck with the family. All I was trying to do during the race was to get him to settle as he can be a bit keen. He will probably go two and a half to three miles over hurdles and he would like better ground. Being a 7yo he will probably go over hurdles sooner rather than later but there is a chance he could go for a bumper at Galway.
Free sends favourite backers home happy
It probably wasn't the greatest race in the world and we won't get too carried away but it was a help and she handled the ground well. Jewel In the Sun (also trained by Swan) is her half-brother and he wants the ground like the road so I thought she would want better ground.
