Family success for O'Dwyers with Gerhard in opener
Glengouly off the mark for Mullins
Jody said he was a bit idle in front and that’s why he made the mistake at the second last and was looking around. He gave her a perfect ride up to that.
Kahala claims the spoils as Klassical flops
It was a brilliant performance. If you go back through her form, her bad run was at Cheltenham last year and she was lame after it. We were always keen to step her up to the three miles as her jumping is a bit slow. When they are going that bit quicker over two and a half on quicker ground she can make the odd mistake. That gives us options. I’m not saying after that she’s definitely going to go for the Stayers, we’ll see closer to it. If the ground was very soft in Cheltenham on the first day she could go for the Mares Hurdle. Hopefully she comes out of this race well and fingers crossed we’ll rock on to Cheltenham. I expected her to run a huge race today. She was working well at home and is a filly we always thought a lot of. Cheltenham will be ground dependant. I wouldn’t run her on good ground over there. She’d want a bit of soft in it.
Condon strikes again after recent return from injury
He took a bit of time to mature. We probably did a bit too much with him last season but he has come back a better and stronger horse. I thought he would need the run but the (Bullseye) syndicate are local so we said we’d run and it’s great that it has worked out.
Poet edges Thyestes thriller
He got a good start and Darragh said he never missed a beat. He was always able to take him back and give him a breather. I would have said he was more effective on heavy ground but he seemed to handle that. I know it's soft but there's a bit more life in it today. He just really enjoyed it. He came alive when he came into the ring, he was really fresh and bright in himself. When horses are healthy and well, they don’t take a lot of training. The last time I had a runner in the race was when Numbersixvalverde won it (in 2005). They’re great races to win, these historic races, won by some great horses going back the years. It’s only his second run in a handicap but he came from a good school. Derek O’Connor schooled him in his point to point, so I didn’t have to do too much schooling. There’s an entry closing on Monday for Aintree, and we’ll think of the Irish National as well. They’re the type of races we’ll be looking at.
Coeur just Sublime in beginners
He jumped great apart from the last one down the back. I’m delighted with him and he’s a class horse.
Mercurey makes impressive debut in bumper
He shows me that at home. He was very impressive there and we’ll see where we go with him now. He’s only four and I’m not sure that I want to go to Cheltenham with him. We’ll have a word with connections and see how he comes out of that race. He could possibly go for the winners race in Limerick and go on then to Punchestown. There were some well thought of horses behind him and he left them for dead after making his own running. He is a huge prospect for jumping. He’s got size and scope and is by the right sire. He’s a nice one to look forward to.
