Mullins & McCullagh take the opener with Mia
She's never put a foot wrong since we've got her,. She's been very professional every day and she does exactly what it says on the tin. I wasn't 100 percent happy coming here but she's a six-furlong filly and had to come here. It's one of the Foran Auction races and I said 'to hell with it I'll come here'. She got tired in the end but was entitled to. She nearly has half the money that I bought her for. She's a nice filly. She'll probably want a month looking at her but it depends on what way she takes that. She probably ended up getting a hard race in the end being in front for so long. We won't be in a rush back anywhere for a while. I have a fancy entry for her (in the Phoenix Stakes) but it's only three weeks away so I don't know if she'll make that or not.
Motashakel gets up late to open account
He has a good attitude, he's a very very kind horse and he wants to be stepped up another furlong with a little ease in the ground,. He could be competitive at a higher division hopefully. Races like the Beresford at the back end could be possible. He's a heavy horse and I'd say a bit of juice in the ground wouldn't do him any harm.
Brown off the mark from new Curragh base
She was second for us last night. We made the decision to run her again this morning as she ate up last night and came out of the race brilliantly. It paid off,. That's her third win for me in the last year-and-a-half. I've just recently moved to the Curragh to train and been granted a full trainer's licence. Fingers crossed I can get a few more like her. I was down in Myshall in Carlow and we moved up a month again. We have 16 at the minute and about eight empty stables so it would be lovely to fill them. She's a great old mare. We'll probably give her a week to get over the two quick runs and see if there is something in Galway for her. We might even go back across the water for something. We don't really make a plan with her as she runs how she is.
Rocks shocks in the Meld
She was very good and she got some super assistance from the saddle. She wasn't going to give it away anyway,. After that we'll probably keep her to a mile-and-a-quarter or less. Probably the best mile-and-a-quarter race to come is at Longchamp on Arc day (Prix de l'Opéra) but the only problem with that is she doesn't like soft ground so we have to be careful. She might get an invite to Hong Kong after that and I'll have to take out my passport again. Herself and Cimeara are closely related. She is out of a full-sister to Cimeara's dam and both those mares are by Galileo which doesn't stop them either.
Waikuku another for Oxx
He ran well. He was just a bit rusty and Colm gave him plenty of time to warm up in the straight,. He'd like a mile, I'd say, and he's a horse that could be effective from seven to nine furlongs, maybe a bit further but a mile would be nice for him. He just gave him the one crack and he ran to the line very well. He (O'Donoghue) said the ground felt slow on him and he wants really fast ground. I would have said that's fast enough for most horses but he said it felt almost a little slow for him. He'd have preferred faster ground that he'd really rattle off. That could be because he's a bit rusty and he could get a different feel the next day. He's the best horse I've had for a few years now, that mightn't be saying a lot because I haven't had too many good ones for a while, but he's a good horse this fella. You only have to look up his form from last year. He's a lovely looking, beautiful horse, very sound and we've had to wait a while just to have him here. We're delighted with him. We'll have to step him up a bit now obviously. The Platinum Stakes in Cork might be a big jump from a maiden but there might not be a little graduation race we could run in instead at the right distance so we may have to go into something good straightaway. This is Tommy Breen's first horse with me and he's lucky to have a good one to begin with.
Double for O'Brien as Waitingfortheday continues winning run
She's a right filly. She started off on 57 and she's improved away with each run. If the handicapper isn't too hard on her she might get something again. She's done her job. To win four handicaps in Ireland takes a big of doing, there's not too many horses win four in-a-row. In fairness to her she's a right filly and if we got a few more like her we'd be going alright. She'll probably go for something in Galway.
Doctor goes one place better 24 hours on
He came out of the race in great form so I thought why not let him take his chance. He loves that ground.
