Applause makes mark on debut
She's being going nicely at home - working well. Ideally she would want a bit further,. They finished a long way in front of the third. She's a nice filly and quite a big filly. We could look at the Group 3 at Naas (Juvenile Sprint Stakes June 7th) or the Balanchine Stakes at the Curragh on Derby weekend. She's a smart filly. She wouldn't be an Ascot filly as the races there wouldn't suit her. The Queen Mary would be a bit sharp.
Oxx and Berry strike with Troas
He ran well in a maiden here first time. He's a very lazy horse at home and we had to run him to see if there was anything there,. That race didn't really suit him as they went slow and what won it for him today was the fast pace. He loves fast ground and we'll step him up in trip now and see what is available. He's a nice horse but shows nothing at home. The racecourse will tell us about him and he needs a bit more experience.
Precious to step up after handicap success
She did it well. She has been stakes placed and we'll see now if we can win a stakes race with her during the year,. She's a nice filly and is very well-bred as she's by Sadler's Wells out of a full-sister to Rock Of Gibraltar. She's the first one out of the mare. I thought she'd win today. She ran a very good race in stakes company at the Curragh last time. She's very adaptable as she's won on soft at Galway and she is just getting better.
Midas stays on strongly for Derrinstown win
I'm delighted with him. It was his first run back and he was ready to come and start,. Johnny thought he would come on a good bit from that. It was a good solid run race. At First Sight was very green in front the last day but today he went an even building pace and you'd have to be very happy with that. I was worried because they had been a bit behind. We had a very bad winter - I've never seen frost like that. The last few years they've started off slowly but this year has been even slower.
Bethrah on course for Guineas
That was a positive performance. She got a lovely ride from Pat Smullen and will obviously go for the Irish 1,000 Guineas now,. She has always showed plenty of ability and won her maiden easily the other day before following up there. She can get a bit excitable but there has been a lot of work gone into her over the winter with stalls and she's responded very well. She's an improving filly and I think she'll represent us very well in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Rhine in command for Shanahan
I'm delighted with him. I thought he'd run a very big race as he's been working well,. Will Hayes has done a masterful job with him. Without him he wouldn't be racing as he's very hard to get into the stalls. Pat gave him a top class ride as well.
Famous completes treble for Weld and Smullen
The ground was drying up as the evening went on and that's as fast as he wants it. I probably won't run him on that kind of ground again,. The second horse is a Group 2 winner and loves fast ground. Pat said that even with the ground fast he wants to win and guts and courage won the day. Sometime during the year we'd love to have a crack at a Group 1 with him. He's in the Queen Anne at Ascot but that looks unlikely. A lot depends on the ground.
