Downforce impresses in Cork feature
He loves that ground and Penny Pepper finished second to us last year too so it's the same two and those Fast Companys love that ground. He just goes through it when others can't and I was delighted to see it barely raceable today. The ground, to me, is barely raceable and he was the only one who could handle it. We'll have to try him on a bit better ground now - I won't ever run him on firm but he has ran crackers of races on good ground in the past. We'll keep stepping him up, he's a grand horse but today was his Derby as we have to make hay with him early on, and late on, in the year.
Son Of Rest much the best in Cork
He doesn't kill himself when he hits the front so the race wasn't run to suit but he was entitled to do that. He wasn't drilled for today by any means and I was half toying between coming for this race or the seven-furlong maiden but just thought the ground would be testing enough and came for this. He'll go for Navan next month for a six furlong Listed race [run as the Listed Coolmore Stud Power Stakes in 2016] next.
Murtagh's Maximus causes 25/1 surprise
I’m glad he won because it confirmed what we thought of him at home but I was worried after his Dundalk runs. I was sure he’d win a maiden but obviously he didn’t handle the surface at Dundalk. Coming here I thought the ground would probably be a bit too heavy fro him and while he is not big, is very strong.
Angel Island brings up Stack/Hayes double
She had been working well all spring and likes that ground. She had been with David Wachman last season and he hadn't done much with her as she's a big filly. She'll have no problem getting an extra furlong or two and will go for the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan next.
Hansian Prince scores for Lyons & Keane
we're delighted with that and delighted that we have a soft ground horse! The key to him is soft ground and he loves it. On that ground out there, any horse that is half-thinking about it, will not win and will not get home. Colin was good at him. He won with blinkers last year and we left them off the last day with freshness but it was a good call to put them back on today. We'll cherry-pick his races and he was well advised to us by Katie McGivern, who has been very lucky for us, and is a fun horse for Vincent and Geraldine (Gaul). He's a handicapper and will go for a handicap next.
Crosse rides first winner on Elm Grove
That's Nathan's first winner - he has ridden twice previously for me and is a good little rider. He's still in school, is 17 and from Cahir, Co Tipperary. He rides out at weekends and during the summer and is a mannerly young lad. She is a right filly and that's the second winner for (stallion) Arcano today and it's all about the ground for them. She stayed on well, loved the ground and is in at Leopardstown on Wednesday. She's a hardy mare and we have to make hay with her at this time of year.
