Permission was given for Hoo Ya Mal (GB) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries.
Approaching 2½ furlongs out, Hoo Ya Mal (GB), unplaced, hung slightly left crowding the winner Eldar Eldarov (GB), which became unbalanced and then shifted right bumping the hindquarters of Hoo Ya Mal (GB).
However, after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approximately 2 furlongs out involving Haskoy (GB), placed second, ridden by Frankie Dettori, and Giavellotto (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Neil Callan.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved the placing of Haskoy (GB) as the steadily improving Giavellotto (IRE) had been severely checked in his run at a crucial stage of the race and become badly unbalanced as a result of Haskoy (GB) drifting across his rightful running.
The Stewards deemed that the ground and momentum lost by Giavellotto (IRE) was greater than the official distance of a closing ¾ of a length between the runners at the line.
The Stewards therefore revised the placings as follows: First – Eldar Eldarov (GB), Second – New London (IRE), Third – Giavellotto (IRE), Fourth – Haskoy (GB).
Dettori was suspended for 5 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to drift left without sufficient and timely correction, causing Giavellotto to be severely checked in its run.
1½ furlongs out, Lizzie Jean (GB), unplaced, hung left despite the riders best efforts to correct, badly hampering French Claim (IRE), unplaced, which in turn bumped Giavellotto (IRE), placed third, which became unbalanced.
However, after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of any horse.
Following the race, David Probert reported that Hoo Ya Mal (GB), unplaced, hung left in the home straight.
