I was a bit disappointed with him that day but he does want soft ground. He stays really well and he jumps great. All those Gold Well's stay very well and you could see him going three miles. The Stewards enquired into possible interference from the approach to the last hurdle home involving Festive Felon, ridden by P. Carberry, winner and Don Poli, ridden by D.N. Russell, placed second, where it appeared Don Poli suffered interference. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the judges placings and took no further action. Mr R. Dore, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Dan's Rolls, ridden by B.M. Cash, and trained by A.L.T. Moore. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. B.M. Cash stated that his instructions were to jump the horse off in mid division as long as he settled and do his best from there. However, he said the horse was very free jumping off, and the more he tried to settle him the harder he pulled and the field had turned into the straight before he dropped the bit, at which stage he felt he was holding onto nothing and his mount hung left all the way home. He felt if he let his mount have his head earlier in the race, he would not have got home. A.L.T. Moore stated that the horse is difficult to train, and is so free at home that he is worked on his own, and stated he was fit enough for his first run, but he was unsure how he would handle the ground or running amoungst other horses. He expressed satisfaction with the ride after observing how free his charge was throughout the race and how he hung in the home straight. He said he hoped his charge would learn to settle better and give himself more of a chance in future. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Dan's Rolls was Post Race Normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Mr R. Dore, Acting Steward, did not attend this enquiry.
