Fun & Ferraris as McDonogh remembers 70s
this is one of my favourite tracks from the very beginning when I was leading trainer here for two or three years in the 1970s. I also rode my first winner here, I won't say when but it was 1969 and I beat Richard Dunwoody's father in a hurdle, imagine! The horse duly knew more than I did and pulled up after the winning post and I fell off over his head!. he (Alterno) deserved that and has been running consistently despite the old trait of swishing his tail, but he didn't swish today. He travelled beautifully and Davy (Russell) said he handled it like a Ferrari! . He gave him a great ride and it's brilliant as he has been knocking on the door. I'd say he'll jump a fence as he's a great jumper.
Walsh completes Downpatrick double
Kennedy returns to winners' enclosure
listen a winner is a winner and he (Polymath) is going to the Sales so he'll be grand and the other horse (Masterson) wants a bit better ground.
Jimmy Two Times lands odds in Downpatrick
That was an easy opportunity for him, he needs to go right-handed. There aren't many opportunities for him for the next month. He may go to Galway, I think there's a race for him there at the end of September. I think if there's a graded race we might look at running there. If it is two miles one (in Galway) it might be a bit short. This race was ideal for him, it was a good place to start off. The whole thing backfired a bit at Galway. We ran him in the big handicap there and the way the race was run just didn't suit him. He needs to be there in front dictating it. He got boxed in and couldn't get out. He pops away, he is cute to jump. I would love to try and come back to win the Ulster National but he is going to be too highly handicapped for that job. He needs to go right-handed so that rules half the place out! He does need a trip. He had plenty left there. If another horse comes to him he'll battle. He won a graded race at Fairyhouse one day. When another horse comes to him he sticks his neck out and tries. He's hard out.
William Du Berlais one for Walsh
Weld and Maguire win another bumper
I’m delighted and it all went to plan. I just took my time and he was still full of running turning in. I just kept him up to it up to the line. He did it very well, he was full of running. He (Dermot Weld) said he fancied him and said he might be a bit green and to educate him. It's a very undulating track but he handled it no bother. He loved the soft ground. He's a smart horse, I was very impressed with him.
