Trainer Dermot Weld and stable amateur jockey Finny Maguire combined to win their second bumper in three days when landing the concluding Attheraces.com INH Bumper at Downpatrick today with newcomer Days Without End
The well backed son of Dubai Destination (3/1 this morning in to 6/4 favourite at the odd) was patiently ridden by Maguire who produced the gelding to lead a furlong out before scoring a three and three parts of a length win over Boris Grishenko
Both Weld and Maguire won with First Figaro at Killarney on Saturday and following today’s win, Maguire said “I’m delighted and it all went to plan. I just took my time and he was still full of running turning in. I just kept him up to it up to the line. He did it very well, he was full of running.
"He (Dermot Weld) said he fancied him and said he might be a bit green and to educate him. It's a very undulating track but he handled it no bother.
"He loved the soft ground. He's a smart horse, I was very impressed with him."
The winner is part-owned by Senior Steward of the Turf Club, Meta Osborne, who later remarked "I'm a lifelong racegoer and had been to all 26 Irish racecourses, all except Downpatrick, until today so I'm delighted.
"Dermot was quietly confident; it’s a tricky track here but he did it well and that's all you want."
