Bedelia rewards her backers at 20/1 in opener
She has ability, but tended to down tools when they came around her. She reared coming out of stalls today and he kept her wide in a small field with loads of room. She enjoyed passing them and finished out her race well.
Green Sky runs down The First And Last
Morning-price gamble landed with Fratas
The horses are in good form and she worked well last week. She missed the break the last couple of times and we had to do a lot of practising to get her right coming out. She was sixth in a good maiden at Gowran Park before I got her. All she does really is gallops and stays. She put her head down in the last furlong and galloped to the line. She’s entered up for Friday night (in the Curragh), but whether she gets in is another thing.
Hayes seen to good effect aboard front-running Redstone Well
He’s a great little horse and it’s great for the owner (Richard Ahern, from Castletownroche) who bred him as well and would be local to me. Amy gets on well with him and her 7lb claim means a lot. She’s light as well so, if we run in a better race as a light weight, she will be able to claim as well. He has one pace but can maintain that and is versatile ground-wise. He won on soft ground before and was second in Dundalk twice.
Keane drives Lizzy's Filly home for Martin
I have her about two months. The owner (Oliver Toner) said to me he was going to be down here for this meeting and would we be able to get her ready and I thought 'no', but I said we’d try. She did her first bit of work about a fortnight ago and it was nice and I said we have a chance. Everything has been good since that. She was a little bit undercooked tonight, but I felt she was really well of herself and that might be the best way to have her. She’s quite hot. She’s honest and tries hard but can worry herself out of it. He gave her a wonderful ride. I was a bit concerned where we were drawn (wide), that we’d have to use up a lot of petrol to get a position but he slotted in really nicely. This is the second winner we’ve had for this man and she’s named after his wife Liz.
Well-travelled Longclaw delivers at 50/1
When he was dropped out in England he seemed to lose interest, and a mile and two was probably too quick for him the last day. I thought with the tight track and, if we got him to jump out and go forward, he could be in with a squeak. He was second three times before Christmas and then disappointed and we were still figuring him out. These older geldings sometimes get their own ideas, but he was true and honest today. It’s a nice pot to pick up. We’ll see what the handicapper does and we might go back over hurdles with him.
Cromwell and Carroll double up with Vera Verto
I always thought she wanted softer ground than that, but that is probably ideal for her on the easy side of good. Gary gave her a lovely ride. We will probably keep her on the Flat for the moment and might have a look to see if there is something for her in Galway. We gave her a couple of runs over fences, but she jumps a bit too careful.
