Lynam can now 'boast a little', as Only The Brave claims the opener
it's brilliant because my uncle Bryan owns her and it's his first ever winner in Ireland; he's had a few with Dad and they haven't won so this is super and now I can boast a little bit tonight!. Bryan lives in Ireland and in France and has been very lucky in France but this is his first winner over here.
Winning debutante Dramatise causes 50/1 upset
to be honest I was surprised. She was working nicely at home but we thought she'd be a bit green to win first time out. She's obviously a nice filly and we'll step her into black-type company now. She was very impressive in fairness to her. She's just a big filly and has taken a little bit of time. She's a fine, big, good-looking filly with a good pedigree. Donnacha's horse (King's Field) had nowhere to go but he'll win his maiden.
Weston continues Murphy's winner-a-week spell
I think he's a very nice horse. He's an improving sort and he'll go for the series final after that. I don't think he'll have any problem getting the seven and he's a very consistent genuine horse. He does what he does at home and reproduces it on the racecourse. He was green the first day and he came on and learned it himself. We didn't push him and he did it all himself.
Recon Mission scores for in-form O'Callaghan
he's a lovely horse and we thought a lot of him when he won his maiden first time out. In the Marble Hill Stakes he just raced a little bit keenly and was a little too enthusiastic and on the ground at the Curragh that day he didn't get home. He won his maiden on heavy ground and he's won there, on what Leigh said, is proper good ground so he's quite versatile that way. He's probably a stakes horse with just a little bit of ease in the ground - that's what we thought of him all along. The day he ran in Tipperary he came home with a sore shin and we just sat on him then, which we had to do with a lot of the horses this year as the ground was so quick. We took our time and said we'd wait for a bit of kindness to come back in the ground. Thankfully now it's paying off. He's a lovely horse. There is another nursery for him in a few weeks but the handicapper might be hard enough on him after winning three lengths. There is also a Listed race over five in a few weeks for him as well so we might go for that.
McCreery's Blenheim Stakes winner is Royal Ascot bound
I'm really fond of this filly and I'd love to finish now with a view to going to Royal Ascot for the Commonwealth Cup with her next year; that's what I'm dreaming of. I think we were just riding her wrong the last twice. We were trying to hold her up and make her get home and I think we cheesed her off a little bit. Today she got six (furlongs) very well and she was going away from them at the line. It gives us a lot of hope for next year too because you don't want an out-and-out five furlong filly. It's great for the team (Irish National Stud Breeding&Racing Club) and there are quite a few of them here today enjoying the day. She's a good filly going forward and we'll let her grow into herself.
Caesar's Comet scores for Hogan & Leonard
he's won snug enough. He's a tough old horse, he loves the ground and the trip seems to be okay. He's a nice horse and he's done it well at the line. I've watched his videos and I saw him doing it well here earlier in the year. I asked Kevin (Manning) about him. He liked him and said he's a grand horse that hits the line well the whole time but he just wondered would this trip be a bit sharp but he's done it well.
Ducky Mallon gains seventh win for owner/breeder/trainer
he's such a gentleman at home and he's such brilliant athlete when he comes to the races. I asked him (Redmond) not to go for him suddenly and to step up the pace once he saw the straight and to slowly step up the pace. He did and he was basically increasing his pace right up until the death. The jockey did as he was asked. I bred him myself and Handsome Maverick is his half-brother, who was very unlucky in the last race (when a close third), so we almost had a double. There is a six (furlongs race) in Cork for this lad on October 3rd and he'll definitely go for that.
Stallion prospect Still Standing wins Fairyhouse finale
Colm said he got in a muddle in the Curragh when he was drawn very wide and nothing went right for him and then he got a bump. He's only dossing there; as soon as he hits the front his ears are pricked and then the horses came and he goes again, then he thinks he's done enough. We'll probably step him up a mile-and-a-half and he'll make a nice staying horse for next year. We could look at the Naas November Handicap or the October Handicap at Leopardstown.
