Jaega impresses on debut in opener
The ground is very testing but she’s a lovely filly and we’ve always liked her a lot. She was very immature last year so I took my time with her. We’ll go for a Stakes race with her next. She stays well, has a lot of class and could be a nice filly going a mile and a half.
Weld doubles up with Khalaab
He’s a fine big horse and, like the filly who won the first, was very immature last year. We took our time with both of them and patience is paying dividends. He’s a big progressive horse and we’ll see how he comes out of his race. I’ll have a word with Angus Gold and then we’ll decide his future. He showed a very good attitude and did everything well. He got a good strong ride from Declan.
Canyon records shock 25/1 win for Mooney
He can be a lazy horse at home and has had a wind operation. That’s his first time to run since his wind op, and he did it well. He’ll stay two miles, is a nice genuine horse and a real favourite in our yard. He jumps well so we should have some fun with him over the summer. I think he’d be better on better ground but they have done a great job here getting it back in good shape after racing on Saturday. I have seven in training at the moment from two-year-olds to older horses and have claimed a few from races in England.
On The Go strikes Again in Listed prize
Gary said they didn’t go that fast early on and he hit a bit of a flat spot in the straight but when he hit the rising ground he was away. He’s after having a hard start to the season so he’ll go on his holidays now and hopefully come back for the Galway Hurdle. That’s the big plan, and he might have a prep run somewhere. We like winning at Bellewstown so maybe we could go there. That’s my first Listed winner but I’ve never had a horse like that before. Tough As Nails was a great horse but this horse is so versatile, tough and honest, and he always gives his all.
Raintree overcomes training problems to score
She goes on the ground and claiming five when they get a ride like that is a huge thing on the ground. She is going to improve a lot as she got badly setfast on me two months ago and it’s a credit to my staff, and Red Mills gave me great help working on her diet. It’s a lactic acid build up and all the muscle enzymes are hugely elevated and they are very sore. As soon as you try and exercise her it stiffens up again. It means the staff have to get her out of the stable two or three times a day, exercised her on Sundays and during the snow. Daniel is with Joseph O’Brien but is coming into me one morning a week, and I’m thankful to Joseph to let him. That was a good ride.
Prendergast at the double again with Sec
She’s no star but by god she’s game. Ronan said she gave everything and was very tired after the race. She is what she is, a 70’s filly, and has won two now out of pure guts and endeavour. She goes on the ground well, and is a very likeable filly. Ronan gave her a great ride. She was drawn 12 and I thought during the race he might be burning too much early but he got it right.
Settle toughs it out to claim win number eight
