Weld doubles up with Khalaab Dermot Weld recorded a quick double on the card at Leopardstown when newcomer Khalaab emerged on top after a terrific duel with Sir Erec in the nine furlong maiden. Gardens Of Babylon was sent to post the 9/10 favourite but came under pressure turning for home as his Ballydoyle stable-mate Sir Erec cut out the running. He was joined by Khalaab over a furlong from home and there was nothing between the pair in the closing stages. The Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned son of Blame just prevailed close home to record a short-head success. He was returned a 9/2 shot having been 8/1 this morning. Weld said:- “He’s a fine big horse and, like the filly who won the first, was very immature last year. We took our time with both of them and patience is paying dividends. “He’s a big progressive horse and we’ll see how he comes out of his race. I’ll have a word with Angus Gold and then we’ll decide his future. “He showed a very good attitude and did everything well. He got a good strong ride from Declan.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
