Permission was given for both Monte Igueldo (FR) and Winterwatch (GER) to each wear a red hood to post.
The Raceday privilege request in relation to Monte Igueldo (FR), trained by Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, was late being submitted.
The trainers were warned as to their responsibility to ensure that all Raceday privilege requests are submitted before 1pm on the day before racing.
At the final hurdle in the back straight Donnie Azoff (IRE), unplaced, jumped awkwardly and shifted right making contact with Winterwatch (GER), placed second, which was inconvenienced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
At the third last hurdle, Winterwatch (GER), placed second, jumped left-handed carrying both Donnie Azoff (IRE), unplaced, and the winner, Monte Igueldo (FR), off their intended lines, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Winterwatch (GER).
Micheal Nolan was questioned regarding his riding of Elusive Artist (IRE), from leaving the back straight on the final circuit after racing prominently throughout, before appearing to be somewhat considerately handled in the home straight and finishing seventh of the thirteen runners, beaten by 17¾ lengths.
The Stewards interviewed Nolan and viewed recordings of the race, with the Veterinary Officer reporting that a post-race examination of Elusive Artist (IRE), failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Nolan stated that his instructions had been to drop in midfield and get the gelding to settle, however a slow early pace meant that Elusive Artist (IRE) ran keenly and settled much closer than anticipated.
He explained that when the pace quickened approaching the home turn, his mount was slightly outpaced and came off the bridle before receiving some minor crowding from the winner Monte Igueldo (FR) on his outside which caused him to lose some ground.
Nolan added that rounding the home turn Elusive Artist (IRE) started to travel again, before the gelding had been distracted by several runners jumping left in advance of him at the third last hurdle.
Nolan further added being mindful of the fact that Mr Carroll had advised him ELSUIVE ARTIST (IRE) can be a quirky type, he only wanted to use the whip if in a strongly competitive position and he felt by keeping a good hold of the horses head, whilst riding hands and heels was enabling the gelding to give his best running down the home straight and obtain the best possible placing.
He also indicated it was intention to report back to the trainer that consideration should be given to applying a Flash noseband and or cheekpieces to assist in getting Elusive Artist (IRE) to relax and lower his head-carriage.
Furthermore Nolan was of the opinion that ELSUIVE ARTIST (IRE) may benefit from quicker ground conditions, than the Good to Soft going he encountered today, which was quite cut by the fifth race.
His explanation was noted.
