Slige Dala completes hat-trick in Listowel's opener
Northern Emperor wins on return
it's nice to get another win with him, the ground helps him and he stayed the distance. I was worried that he hadn't run since January but thankfully he was fine. We have no race picked out but we'll probably keep him at three miles seeing as he handled it here. Hopefully he can go on to win again somewhere. We might try him over fences sometime at the smaller tracks because he's not very big, but he'll be kept hurdling for a while.
Torrens brings up brace on Drop The Anchor
That was a great pot to win and he won his bumper here on similar ground (in 2018). I had a few horses beaten recently that ran well but thought I'm never going to get a bit of luck!. The non-runners were a big help, and it was his first run back, but funny enough he can run well first-time. The jockey was claiming 5lbs from a low weight and, to ride a winner in the race before it, he is on fire so it is unbelievable. That was his first ride for me and I'm delighted with him, the horse, the owner and Aoibhinn (Walsh) for bringing him down. I'm delighted racing is still on and giving people a chance to make a living. I'll look for something similar with the horse and, depending on what the owners say, he might go up in trip if the ground isn't as soft next time.
Bitview Colin rewards Ryan's patience
We were hitting the crossbar here all week so it's nice to get a winner. Bitview Colin had a serious leg injury and was off for two years. We nursed him, like all our horses, and I'd say if he was in another yard he probably wouldn't have come back. I ran him here the other evening and told James (O'Sullivan) to mind the horse and make sure he got around. He came out of that bouncing and I had him entered in this race so I decided to run him when the rain came, even though he'd like better ground. He was third in a valuable handicap hurdle here in 2016. He could make a nice novice chaser and it's possible he'll head to Killarney. He has a very illustrious sister Waitnsee (a dual winner for the yard) - she is a proper proper mare and they are out of a dam who cost quarter of a million. It is a beautiful pedigree and he could make a nice little novice chaser.
Minella Times another for McManus
Change of tactics works for Mt Leinster
It was a good performance and we said we'd change tactics with him and let him rock and roll and see if it works. It mightn't work again but it worked for today anyway. We'll be pursuing a chasing career now; I have him entered at Punchestown on Tuesday but he won't run there. I saw today's race and entered him and we said we'd take our chance and we'll hopefully go chasing now.
Mullins team double up with Brooklynn Glory
She is a nice filly and has been showing me a lot at home but I was a little worried about the ground today - I thought she might want better but Patrick said she handled it alright. She is a nice, strong mare with plenty of size and she's a mare that will win races. She wore a hood as she is a little giddy and I was afraid coming down here with the big crowd on ladies' day!
