FormscanBy Tom Weekes - CARLINGFORD LOUGH bids for a historic three-timer here and is a hopeful choice in a competitive field. A five time Grade 1 winner, he has shown a very high level of ability on occasions and he seems to reserve some of his best form for today’s venue. He is now an 11yo but ran with some encouragement over hurdles recently and clearly has been aimed at this race since his near top class Punchestown win last April. Don Poli is himself near top class at his best and while clearly enigmatic, bounced back to form when second in the Lexus in December. He can’t ever be fully trusted to show his best form ever run but is a triple Grade 1 winner who is still only an 8yo. Stablemate Empire Of Dirt, seemingly Jack Kennedy’s pick, has his second start for Gordon Elliott, having done well in handicap chases in the last year. He has been thoroughly progressive in recent times and while he tackles Grade 1 company for the first time, has to have some chance, with trip and ground not an issue. There was no disgrace in Minella Rocco’s final fence fall, when seemingly beaten, by Many Clouds at Cheltenham in December and he too tackles a Grade 1 race for the first time. He is unexposed being a 7yo but does need to maintain progression to win this. More Of That, winner of the 2014 World Hurdle, has raced just six times over fences and while unsuccessful just twice, was third in last season RSA and wasn’t beaten too far in the Lexus in December. Sizing John successfully stepped up in trip latest and while he is clearly fit and well, he steps up to three miles for the first time here and is possibly vulnerable to high class horses. Zabana was a high class novice chaser last season but was well held in the Lexus latest while Road To Riches, a dual Grade 1 winner in his prime, was eighth in the Lexus and has been mildly disappointing in recent times.
