Permission was given for Astigar (FR) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the approach to the last hurdle involving the winner Noble Savage (IRE), ridden by Jordan Nailor and Just Go For It (GB), placed second, ridden by Sean Houlihan.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Noble Savage (IRE)’s placing as on the approach to the last hurdle it jinked sharply left-handed, giving Just Go For It (GB) a slight bump and taking it off its intended line, causing Houlihan to have to straighten the mare.
Thereafter having jumped the final hurdle, Just Go For It (GB) continued to close all the way to the line, from approximately a length down to be beaten a diminishing nose on the line.
The Stewards revised the placings as follows: First -Just Go For It (GB), Second – Noble Savage (IRE), Third – Astigar (FR), Fourth – Rebel Intentions (IRE).
The interference was found to be accidental as Noble Savage (IRE) jinked quickly left-handed before been quickly corrected, giving a bump to and moving Just Go For It (GB) off its intended line.
The performance of Sandalwood (FR), which started favourite and finished fifth of five runners, was considered.
Paul Nicholls could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported a post-race examination of Sandalwood (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
