Permission was given for Global Prospector (USA) to be led to the start whilst wearing a red hood.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Zulu Zander (IRE) ridden by Gina Mangan and trained by David Evans which, having jumped awkwardly, was dropped in near the rear of the field before holding its position up the straight under considerate handling to finish eleventh of thirteen runners, beaten 8 ¼ lengths.
The rider and the representative of David Evans were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions were to drop the gelding in and ride him to get the 6 furlongs, having never been successful over this trip.
She added that she was able to drop in as planned because of his tardy start and a strong pace and Zulu Zander (IRE) settled well but when she had asked him for his effort 2 furlongs out he had failed to pick up which she considered could be due to a long season and that the gelding might benefit from a break.
She further added that she did not discount trying the gelding over the trip again in the future in order to give the Trainer more options with Zulu Zander (IRE).
The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and stated that she was satisfied with the ride.
Their explanations were noted.
The performance of Production (GB) which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
The representative of Ed Walker could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
Production (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Paul Mulrennan reported that STEEL RIVER (IRE), placed eighth, was slowly away and Phil Dennis reported that Sound Of Iona (GB), unplaced, hung right-handed around the bend.
