Rayna holds off Lady Clitico

John Oxx has a terrific strike rate with his runners at Tramore and he improved that further when Rayna took the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at the County Waterford track.
Running in the familiar colours of the Aga Khan, the 3-1 shot tracked the front-running Sixteen Again around the tight turns before being sent into the lead by Declan McDonogh with a furlong and a half to run.< Lady Clitico loomed up as a real threat in the closing stages, but Rayna, a daughter of Selkirk, ran on strongly and she was still a neck in front at the line, though the lead was diminishing fast.
Pat Flynn looked to have found a fine opportunity for Highly Toxic in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden and he was sent off the odds-on favourite, but he never looked at home and faded after holding every chance, reportedly finishing lame.
The race was won by the Peter Fahey-trained front-runner Asknotwhat (11-4), who skipped around the turns in the hands of Billy Lee and had the opposition in trouble a long way out before clearing away to score by 12 lengths.
Flynn had better luck in the August Festival 14th To 17th Rated Race when Danny Grant got a good tune out of Waydownsouth late on as the 7-2 shot collared favourite Lindenhurst and Kims Dream for victory by three-quarters of a length.
The trainer then completed a double when 5-2 joint-favourite Gusty Rocky the mount of Katie Walsh, just held off the Jane Mangan-ridden Sizing Italy by a nose in a thrilling finish to the Dunhill (Ladies) Maiden.
Billy Lee also completed a double when John Hassett's top-weight Secret Seven (14-1) charged up from the back of the field and swept round the outside on the final bend to take the Book Online At tramore-racecourse.com Handicap going away by three and three-quarter lengths.< Glance Of Doon (14-1) pounced late under Conor Hoban to take the www.tramore-racecourse.com Handicap, and the post came just in time for the in-form Wayne Lordan to land the Annestown Handicap on 11-4 favourite Seismic
