Review listowel 23rd Sep

It was business as usual at Listowel as champion trainer Willie Mullins and top jockey Ruby Walsh picked up the main prize when Pozyc landed the Edmond Whelan Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

Sent off the evens favourite, the five-year-old seemed to be following the script to the letter as he moved smoothly into the lead after the second-last and looked poised for an easy score.

But his stride shortened on the run to the line and Walsh had to roust him along to hold the renewed challenge of Faltering Fullback by half a length.

Lucky William has not had the best of luck over fences, but it finally went his way on his return to the larger obstacles as he took the Allman Contracts Limited Beginners Chase in the hands of Bryan Cooper.

Always among the leaders although under restraint, Tom Cooper's 8-11 favourite already had the race in the bag when Forjoetheplumber unseated at the last, leaving him to coast in by nine lengths.

Killarney bumper winner Owega Star (7-1) made his first start over the smaller obstacles a winning one when taking the MJ Carroll ARRO Maiden Hurdle in the hands of Andrew Leigh.

Peter Fahey's four-year-old had joint-favourite Run With The Wind to contend with from the second-last, but soon got on top and stayed on nicely in the testing conditions to score by three and three-quarter lengths.< Ardglen (2-1 favourite) followed up Monday's Ballinrobe victory as he led all the way under Brian Hayes to win the Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap Chase by 16 lengths for in-form Shark Hanlon.

The Listowel Races Supporters Club Slan Abhaile (QR) Race looked a gift for the Charles Byrnes-trained Pittoni (1-7 favourite), who wasn't doing much after hitting the front in the hands of Derek O'Connor but forged clear of Idarah by three lengths.
