Katie O’Farrell gained compensation for a narrow defeat earlier on the card as Definite Ruby defied top-weight in the Visit www.punchestown.com Mares Handicap Hurdle.
The 7lb claimer was just touched off in the 2m4f handicap chase as I’m An Izz Wizz was headed on the line by Tulpar and she was seen to great effect here recording her tenth career win.
The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding, reappearing after an eight-month break, made up good ground approaching the last and headed 4/1 favourite Mill Quest on the run-in.
The 20/1 chance had half a length to spare at the line over the favourite, with I’m All You Need five lengths away in third.
O’Farrell said, “I wasn’t expecting that as it was her first run back in a while. We were hoping she would run well. That’s not her ground at all.
“I’m riding freelance and ride work for Enda Bolger, Willie Mullins, Gordon (Elliott) and Shay Barry as well.”
Elliott said, “She’s a grand honest mare. I thought the trip was too short and the ground too soft. It was her first run back and I thought she’d come on from it so it was grand and everyone is happy.
“She could compete in some of those long distance handicap chases again. She won over fences here last year.”
