Ciara Flynn, daughter of trainer Paul Flynn, registered a first career win in famous silks at Dundalk today, steering her father's Power Drive (14/1) to an all-the-way win in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap (div I).
Successful three times for previous trainer Charles O'Brien, the son of Medicean was today sent to the front from the start by Flynn and while pressed in the closing stages, held on for a half-length win over Sam Missile to notch a fourth career success.
Galway Hurdle winning trainer Flynn was at the Sales and following the race his delighted daughter reported “I finished school two years ago and I’m working at home with my father. I got my license in June and I’ve had 15 rides.
“I was thinking that someone would go by me but they didn’t and I’m delighted. He’s a big horse and is my mother’s favourite.”
Power Drive carries the colours of owner John Eastwood, whose father Ramie Eastwood was the owner of Chinrullah, winner of the 1979 Arkle Chase at Cheltenham.
Chinrullah went on to win the 1980 Champion Chase, a day before finishing fifth to Tied Cottage in the 1980 Gold Cup. However Chinrullah and Tied Cottage subsequently lost those races as both had eaten contaminated cubes, tested positive for a banned substance and were later disqualified.
