Nineteen previous attempts had yielded nothing for nine-year-old Bective Cave until he scored at Clonmel on Friday night. This evening at Roscommon the Court Cave made it a quick double to credit his rider Andrew Lynch with a brace on the programme in the Roscommon Racecourse Handicap Hurdle.

Half-an-hour on from his win in the maiden hurdle on Twobeelucky for Henry de Bromhead and Roger Brookhouse, here Lynch was doing the steering on Bective Cave for Matthew Smith.

Similarly it was looking good for Lynch from a fair way out and in the end Bective Cave had two lengths in hand over Shek O Lad

Smith said: "He came out of the race well at Clonmel, and we let him take his chance. He's done it well again there, and that trip is ideal.

"He's entered at Downpatrick on Saturday. I don't know if he'll go there but we'll see how he is after this."

Bective Cave is owned by Mary Keating. The Keating family have been involved in Irish racing for many years in various roles such as white flag man, starting stall handler and valet.

The Stewards fined Liam Casey, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Field Exhibition in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

M.P. Walsh, rider of Naughty But Nice trained by Charles O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled and pulled up.

A.E. Lynch, rider of Bective Cave trained by Matthew J. Smith, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung to the left in the straight.
