We're delighted to win the Opera Hat Chase, named after a famous mare. I don't know whether Elimay can be as good as her but we'll try our best. She'll go for the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase now. Mark was happy that she carried him the whole way and she did everything that he asked her. She took a breather turning for home and when she heard the other mares coming up behind her she just picked up again. She got a bit close to the last and got a bit of a bang on her knee, but I think it just looked like a skin wound. We're not worried unless she's stiff or sore in the morning. I think she enjoyed being out there in front, I'd say that's the first time she has jumped from fence to fence from the beginning. On her last run she was backing off her fences a little bit. The first time cheekpieces could have been the reason for improvement today or maybe just making the running. She seemed to like it.

It was hard work and she might have been feeling the effects of Cheltenham but she got the job done anyway so that was nice,. We'll have a look at Punchestown but I think she's probably done enough for the season. We'll see how she comes out of this. I just said to Mark there that on dryer ground she probably wants three miles.

that was a nice race to win and shows up Allaho’s (stablemate) form. It’s great to win the Opera Hat in honour of Valerie Cooper’s good mare (Opera Hat) and hopefully this mare might some day be as good as her. Mark was happy to let the pace materialise up front and the ground is quite boggy down the back. The further the race went the better she was going and Mark was very pleased how she finished. That’s a nice stepping stone towards Cheltenham. I’ll have a word with connections but I would imagine that we will send us towards the Mares Chase.

Elimay is coming on all the whole time,. Mark said she missed the ditch and I thought she hit a flat spot. She did it the hard way then having to come around (wide). I thought Cut The Mustard ran a great race; she is improving and for her second run over fences I was very pleased with her. I'm pleased with the two of them. One, if not the two of them, could go for the Dawn Run Novice Chase at Limerick in March. I don't have anything else obvious for that race.

After race at Punchestown Wed, 1st May, 2019 (1st)
I held my breath when Mark sent her through on the inside because she wouldn't be the fastest filly in the world,. She gallops all day and jumps very well. He just committed her, if it didn't work out I don't know where he would have ended up — through the rails I'd say. Anyway he got through and it worked out. Charlie Swan bought her as a chaser in France because she's such a good jumper but she's not the biggest so we said we'd hold off for a year and maybe go chasing next season. We'll see now after that race where we go. I'll have a chat with Frank and JP and see what they want to do. There are hurdle races to be won with her still. She could go back to France. They could decide they want to go chasing straight away also and there could be mares chases there if we keep getting this broken weather and the ground is nice. I'd imagine she'll go to France but the only thing is that JP doesn't run too many over there and he's inclined to get them back and put them on grass. Because of the type of filly she is we might let her travel but we'll see and it will be up to him to decide.
