Railway Muice battles well for Dempsey Railway Muice (12/1) just held on in a driving finish to win the Belvedere House, Gardens & Park Handicap Hurdle (Div I) under Luke Dempsey. A winner over fences at Limerick in April, the Yeats gelding went to the front on the final circuit but his advantage was gradually whittled away on the run to the final flight by the staying-on Finding Joy. The winner needed all of the 13lb he was in receipt of to just hold that one’s sustained challenge on the run-in by a short head, with Laughing Trix back in third place. It was a first win in 23 starts over hurdles for the 8-year-old. Winning trainer Paul Flynn, who was on lead-up duty, remarked: “He was tough and probably well handicapped. “All his runs over hurdles this year have been over shorter and he probably needed those runs. This is probably his first run over hurdles when he was actually ready and the quicker ground was ideal. “He could possibly be sold to England now as there has been interest in him so it could be his last run for us, I hope not. He'll be an ideal horse for England, he'll win plenty over there.” Quotes from Gary Carson
