Power doubles up on Medinah Gold Robbie Power completed a 17/1 double at Down Royal after Medinah Gold survived a stewards' enquiry to take the Barclay Telecom Handicap Hurdle. The Peter Fahey-trained gelding made a promising reappearance at Limerick earlier this month, and went one better here when stepped up to three miles. The 5/1 chance travelled well to sweep to the front three out and, despite being far from foot-perfect at the final flight, was driven out by Power to beat Colms Dream by a length and three quarters. Hero de Villeneuve was a further six and a half lengths away in third. An enquiry was called into possible interference after the two principals collided before two out. The placings remained unaltered, although Power was adjudged to have ridden carelessly and was suspended for three days. Power was successful earlier on the card aboard New World in the O2 Office 365 Maiden Hurdle. Fahey said: "I'm delighted for this horse. His jumping last year was very poor. Tom Keane selected him for the syndicate and he's part of it. The majority of them are from Galway and Dublin. "He'll go for a little handicap over two and a half miles or three miles." On Bay Of Freedom, who was beaten into third when 11/8 favourite for the first race, he said, "Everything went wrong. He got very worked up and I would draw a line through it." (MG & AM)
