A memorable day for Jamie Powell at the Curragh saw him ride a 254/1 treble with the final leg coming aboard handicap debutant Bossy Parker in the DMG Media Nursery.
The Kodiac colt, available at 25/1 this morning and supported off course before racing, was sent off 15/2 and made all to hold Woodcock Flight by three parts of a length.
Powell's earlier winners were Ice Cold In Alex (11/4) and San Aer (7/1) in the other two handicaps on the card.
This was Powell's second winner for his boss Johnny Murtagh who commented, “He’d been running consistently well but I thought a mark of 78 was high for what he’d done. He’s probably a horse that is going to get better with racing.
“We gelded him after his second run as he was coltish and that knocked the edges off him. He’s grown up mentally and the 7lb claim was a big help today.
“Jamie is having a great day and I’m glad he had a winner for us. He’s on a roll. His dad was Anthony Powell who was a gent and a genius on a horse.
“He’s getting the strength now and the confidence. He’s a very good 7lb claimer and hopefully we’ll be able to use him plenty now for the rest of the season.
“His confidence is up. He started late and didn’t ride a horse until he was 15. He works very hard and goes to RACE and goes to the gym.
“He’s putting in the effort and putting in the work and is getting the rewards now.”
