Having previously achieved a double at Killarney in May 2010, Paul Flynn had a 1,214/1 brace at Kilbeggan this evening on a day to remember for his County Longford-based outfit. Soi Cowboy rounded if off under a masterful Denis O’Regan ride in the Congratulations Freewheelin Dylan Handicap Chase.
Flynn’s Na Caith Tobac ran a cracker at Cork earlier for a close up second placing at 11/1, and at the County Westmeath venue Soi Cowboy was adding to the earlier gains of his 80/1 stable companion, Ask Dee (Jack Wildman up in the 6.25).
O’Regan was brilliant from the front on a mare called Irregularheartbeat at the midlands course yesterday. The Cork native was the complete opposite on Soi Cowboy, giving him a very patient steer from off the pace.
Something very difficult to manage here, Soi Cowboy (14/1) came late and fast to nab joint favourite Thegoaheadman in the closing stages for a length and three parts victory.
“He was unlucky in Downpatrick. I thought I was just getting into it (when fell three out),” said O’Regan.
“He learned a bit from the fall and he came home well today.
“He’s very free but switched off well and credit to Paul - his horses are in good order.”
