Bryan Cooper and Discorama were unfortunate to crash out at the last in a Grade Three at Naas on Sunday but the Kerry jockey was back at the number one after his success on Cresus De Grissay in the Lengthen The Odds With BetVictor Handicap Chase at Down Royal.
Discorama's trainer Paul Nolan ended that Naas card with a victory for a nice bumper horse in Latest Exhibition and he kept up the good work here in this three miler where we had 9/2 co-favourites of four. Nicole's Milan (8s into 9/2) was the one for money but he eventually pulled up.
Up front meanwhile Cresus De Grissay (7/2 out to 9/2) was looking good from some way out and he ultimately accounted for fellow market-leader School Lane by four and three parts of a length.
"We're just glad to get an oul win into him. Bryan (Cooper) said he could be one of those ones there for bottom-weight in those distance races in Fairyhouse and Punchestown," said Nolan.
"He jumps away well and he'll find his level. Hopefully he stays in one piece. He's a big, old galloper.
"His first run was very good against Peacocks Secret in Wexford where he made a couple of mistakes and he (Peacocks Secret) has gone on and been very consistent since.
"He jumped well and Bryan gave him a lovely, positive ride. he was going to make it but he was too slow to make it and he battled to take it up with a circuit to go. That's him flat to the boards and thankfully he jumped well.
"It'll be absolutely no problem (stepping up in trip) and yes the Ulster National absolutely (could be something for him). He stays going, that's all he does."
The Stewards received a report from Dr. Victoria McCandless, IHRB Medical Officer, in relation to the conduct of D.E. Mullins, rider, in the weigh room following the running of this race. Evidence was heard from the Medical Officer, the rider and the IHRB Clerk of the Scales, Mr. W. Fleming. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule 272 by speaking to the Medical Officer in an unacceptable manner and having taken his record into account, severely cautioned him and informed him that this type of conduct will not be tolerated in the future.
The Stewards interviewed A.W. Short, rider of School Lane, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Reg.10.3(f)(excessive frequency) and having taken his record into account suspended him for three race days.
D.J. Mullins, rider of Carlitos Bay trained by Peter Fahey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount tired quickly in the ground.
