Alakazi (9/4) routed his rivals on his second career start today, landing Leopardstown’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden in the colours of the late Aga Khan.

Ridden by Ben Coen, the son of Footstepsinthesands chased the leaders and while pushed along to challenge entering the home straight, readily quickened clear of his rivals and scored by 7.5 lengths from runner-up No Such Thing

Winning trainer Johnny Murtagh, with his fourth winner in six days, reported “Alakazi has been going very well at home and his work companion ran very well yesterday: we probably have a couple of nice three-year-olds colts this year.

“I ran him last year just to get experience into him but was a bit disappointed leaving because I thought he was nice. Maybe it was a bit much for him first time out on heavy ground. It was interesting to see how he behaved today with the Student Day and the good buzz around the place, but he took it all really well.

“We’ll stick him up into a Stakes race the next time and see what he’s made of.”
