Fiery Lucy steps up for Cromwell and Carroll Fiery Lucy appreciated the additional furlong when improving on her debut second to open her account in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden at Fairyhouse. A fast finishing runner-up on her introduction over the minimum trip at Cork last month, the Gavin Cromwell trained filly relished the extra yardage here. Prominent from the outset under Gary Carroll, the 11/10f tracked Lethimfly in the initial stages before throwing down her challenge early in the straight. To his credit, Lethimfly found plenty for pressure, keeping the favourite honest until she gradually got on top from over a furlong out. At the finish, Fiery Lucy had two-and-a-quarter lengths in hand of the Noel Meade trained colt. Gavin Cromwell said: “It was a very good run the first day and I hoped that she could do that today. She won well and Gary thought that she might get further in time. “She probably knew her job a little bit better today and I suppose every day is a school day for them. She was quite professional. “I’m not sure where she will go from here, but she loved that top of the ground.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
